Repertoire

Sarband's repertoire creates a deeper consciousness for cultural distinctions, for the patterns which determine
our perception of the Other and the Foreign. Artistic director and musicologist Vladimir Ivanoff is not interested
in creating hip cross-cultural mishmash projects. Through careful research and sophisticated dramaturgical decisions, his repertoire choices highlight the connecting threads between Orient and Occident, Judaism,
Christianity and Islam, past cultures and present time
. Programs with Early Music repertoires link historically
informed European performance practice
with the living traditions of the Mediterranean.
Distinctions between cultures and religions, between old and new are fathomed; historical and modern concepts
of the Other and the Foreign are reflected between the performers and the audience.
With this unique repertoire, stretching from early Chinese music to Sami joiks, from Early Oriental Christian chant
to the music of Gurdjieff, Sarband have gained an international reputation.
