Gülay Hacer TorukVoice & Percussion

Born in Istanbul, Gülay Hacer Toruk is like this city:
eyes and heart turned to the East and the West
at the same time.
She is a Turkish singer of traditional
and classical repertoires, composer,
author and teacher.
She sings songs from Turkey in all their diversity,
but also the interwoven patrimony of 'kin civilizations'.
In her voice, classical compositions of the Ottoman court
meet sacred chants of Mediterranean religions.
She revives the poetry of Anatolian aşık bards, and also works with contemporary composers.
She became known with the polyphonic vocal trio Tzane (CD Gaïtani - Naïve, 2010), with the dancer-choreographer
Paola Ruggeri, the Renaissance ensemble Doulce Mémoire and the musician Titi Robin.
She sings with Ensemble Sarband since 2013.
